The Parrot Refuge Islands Initiative

Designed to protect threatened parrot populations from habitat loss, ecological pressures and the illegal wildlife trade, which remains a major threat to many parrot species.

Working with our partner FLIGHT, FFB is already implementing measures to help combat trafficking while protecting critical habitat and supporting the long-term recovery of wild populations.

Protect → Measure → Verify → Value

Through anti-trafficking action, population monitoring, habitat assessment, field ecology and FFB’s GBIS and FSIS frameworks, we aim to measure changes in species abundance, habitat condition and recovery over time.

The programme can also create opportunities for local communities through conservation employment, education and carefully managed ecotourism linked to the protection of globally important island biodiversity.

Baseline → Threat Reduction → Recovery → Confidence

The goal: protect parrots from trafficking, restore viable wild populations and demonstrate measurable species recovery that benefits biodiversity and local communities.
